Using a mobility scooter can be an incredibly liberating and rewarding experience. It offers excitement,…
The Brisbane City Council says some scooters are becoming too large for public transport.
According to Jack McKay from The Courier-Mail, the council made a submission to the National Transport Commission outlining their concerns over the size and weight of some mobility devices. Some buses may not be properly designed to handle larger models.
The ramps allowing scooter users onto buses, trains and ferries can only sustain a weight of 300kg. It is important for users to know the entire weight of their devices when riding them, especially when carrying groceries or pets that add extra weight.
It is important for people who use these devices to still have access to public transport. If you have concerns about the access to public transport, you can contact the council regarding this issue at this web address.
If you use a mobility device and use public transport, you’re entitled to have a say in how it should be made to work for you.
